In the power system, the reactive power compensation device is added to meet the reactive power demand in the power system operation.Although this method solves the problem of reactive power shortage in the power grid, the static power compensation will produce a large number of harmonics during operation, which will affect the normal operation of the grid system. In order to improve the performance of reactive power compensation devices, researchers have proposed a number of harmonic compensation schemes.Active-power-filter-based reactive power compensation devices not only can meet the demand for reactive power compensation, but also can suppress the harmonic hazards of electrical devices. In this paper,a low power active filter is connected in parallel to the static var compensation(SVC)device to mitigate the harmonics generated by the SVC.The research includes the structural characteristics and the control strategy of the SVC,and the working characteristics, topology, control strategy of the active power filter.Based on the comparison of the traditional circuit topology,a new reactive power compensation topology based on active power filter is proposed considering the practicality and economy of the system. To improve the performance of the SVC,a control strategy comprising of feedback and feed-forward control components is presented, and the simulation has been taken on the Matlab / Simulink platform. Finally,on the basis of theoretical research and simulation,a three-phase experimental device has been designed. It mainly includes the design of the main circuit and the software design based on DSPC28346 digital controller. The experimental results show that the active power filter in this device fully meets the design objectives, and can completely suppress the harmonics generated by the SVC and eliminate the influence on the grid during its operation. The experimental results also show that the theoretical design of this paper is correct and reasonable.
