In the development of weapon rapid fire system, it is urgent to measure synchronously the projectiles'velocity and coordinates of its incidence points. Rapid fire weapon is a kind of weapon with high projectile velocity, and the projectiles from it can form dense projectile barrage incurring huge killing power. Such rapid fire weapon destroys targets through projectile barrage interception. It is necessary to know the muzzle velocity of the projectiles and the distribution characteristic of projectiles at the falling point so that the attacking targets can be intercepted effectively. Ballistic coordinate measurement is one of the important items in the weapon ammunition performance examination. There are multiple of methods to measure the precise projectile location of small arms automatically abroad, but traditional velocity measuring devices can only measure the projectiles velocity rather than the coordinate of its incidence points.The measure method adopted in this paper is to use intersecting parallel laser beams to shape grating light screen. In principle, when the projectiles fly through the screen, they block corresponding light beams, thereby; the flying velocity of projectile and coordinate of incidence points can be measured. Applying PCI Bus to form data acquisition system for collecting 64 channels digital signals, the velocity as well as the fall point coordinates of any projectile among the running-fired projectiles can be obtained by analyzing and calculating the signals, discrimination value of passing position and time as the running-fired projectiles fly across the light screen. Feasible experiment and primary design were undertaken for this novel method and proved its feasibility. In the practical projectile test, it shows that this method can measure the velocity and fall point coordinates of the running-fired projectiles at range both indoors and outdoors, and the measure result agrees with the data of other measure devices. For example, even the projectile interval time of a bullet programmable launching device (its firing rate: 12000/min) provided by one research institute is 5ms, and under such situation, it can still discriminate the projectile sequence and realize the synchronous and precise measure for the velocity, fall point coordinate and firing rate of such running-fired projectiles with high firing rate by using this method. Overall, this method makes significant contribution to the research and development of running-fired projectiles weapons and bears great research value for testing of"metal storm"weapons and projectile array distribution.
