With the development of photovoltaic industry, more and more solar energy stations will appear, proper solar array configuration and its energy efficient usage become important. It is necessary to test the characteristic of solar array. In this paper we compared and analysed the measurement of solar array, ultimately adopted the principle of capacitive charge testing methods. Based on the researched results, the voltage and current signals are sampled continuously by a high-speed ADC12 converter during charging capacitor by solar array.1. In this paper, the handheld tester is designed, whose power supply is rechargeable lithium batteries. In order to extend battery life, we must ensure that it is a low-power system, using ultra-low power MCU MSP430 family as a system controller chips. And switching transistor is added in sampling circuit, through the triode's opened and shutdown to control the sampling circuit to further reduce power consumption.2. Design the right hardware circuit and software according to the principles of characteristic measure.3. Choose a fit mathematic model of solar array to appear the curve of PV-characteristic. And estimate the PV-characteristic in any conditions by the solar array data acquired in current temperature and sun light intensity.The system is convenient to use and has high precision. In addition to that the characteristics of solar array can be displayed in different ways.
