The Study On Preschool Children's Outdoor Play And Playground In Urban Residential Areas

Play is an important part of children's, especially preschool children's life and the way for them to learn .The studies about children's indoor play and kindergarten's environment are more while few studies focus on the outdoor play and playground in residential areas. However, because of the restrictions on age, the residential area becomes the outdoor environment which children contact most frequently. The changes of residential environment coming with urban development have forced an influence on outdoor playgrounds and children's outdoor play as well. Consequently, the study on the outdoor playgrounds in residential areas and children's play behaviors on them is very essential so as to provide more chance of play and better play environment for children to promote their development and it exactly is the objective of this study.The paper study on children's(especially preschool children's) outdoor play and playground in residential areas goes on the following aspects:(1) The current situation of preschool children's outdoor play in urban residential areas. The total situation of preschool children's outdoor play in Shanghai urban residential areas was analyzed through a lot of questionnaire and children's play behaviors on several different residential areas were observed through field investigation to find out characteristics of outdoor play. The result showed that there are problems of lack of play chance and play space, the singleness of play content and the intervening by adults.(2) The current situation of playground in urban residential areas. The paper through a lot of field investigation and questionnaire to find the characteristics of playground environment and unreasonable problems, and finally find the lack of designed playground and play spaces naturally formed in residential areas, also the green spaces focus on landscape function too much as well.After analyzing above two parts, considering the existing problems, the paper put forward several suggestions from the aspect of play chance,play content and play spaces, under the condition of current residential area environment.
