The "Organic Collection" And Reintegration Of The Public Space Of Waterfront In Jiangnan Water-networks Region

The traditional waterfront in Jiangnan water-networks region was formulated by historical context, but the modern public space of waterfront has gradually lost its traditional and national characteristics. A major issue, what designers facing in the construction of the public space of waterfront, is how to grasp the leading elements, to guide the design of traditional and national space.Based on the comprehensive analysis of domestic and international research, it is found that the leading elements are always indefinite, or composed the related elements in a simple way, which is the fundamental cause of losing traditional and national characteristics in the planning and design level. Therefore, the study proposes a method of"organic collection". The method is that locating the elements of public space of waterfront into the urban structure, and analyzing the relationship of the elements, so we can grasp the leading elements, and make them as a whole. On the method, we must assess the elements on both the agreement with different environments and the conflict of the regional society, and then collect the relevant elements as a collection for different demands, and reintegrate them.The study focus on the public space of waterfront in Jiangnan water-networks region,by the method of"organic collection", proposes that in the development of public space of waterfront should be provide with suitable density of space, mixed function, multi-scale, ecological space as the tactics of design, and also should lay emphasis on the traditional space of communication to reborn its vitality on waterfront. At the last, it is proposed that the built environment should be maintained and fed back by assessment the qualities of public space, to ensure a sustainable development of traditional and national characteristics.
