Study On The Behavior And Evaluation Of Public Space Of Water Towns In Jiangnan

Human behavior in the public space of the water towns in Jiangnan has being changed in the process of tourism and self development. And the residents' way of living has being changed at the same time. This thesis investigates the behavior from the view of environment-behavior studies. It sums up the ways of uses of public space, and makes a comparative study with the ways of that before the tourism development. In addition, this thesis discusses the satisfaction and preferences to the local people. Finally, it concludes the first two parts and gives some suggestions to the protection and development to the water towns.This thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter One, Introduction, mainly describes the background of the study, including the value of water towns, the historical background of protection and development to the water towns, and the problems in that. In addition, it clarifies the meaning of this study. Then it expatiates some relevant content and conceptions from two aspects. Finally it presents the methodology and framework of study.Chapter Two mainly examine the relevant conceptions and the choices of studies. This chapter introduces the current study situation from three areas: the study of environment behavior, the study on the methods of subjective evaluation of built environment and the study of protection on the water towns. In addition, it contrasts the mode of development of six water towns. And finally it introduces general situation of Zhouzhuang.Chapter Three makes a survey on the behavior in the public space of water town. It expatiates the forms, the origins, the structures and the classifications of water town. Then it goes on to the results of the survey. The final part is the summary of Chapter Three.Chapter Four is the evaluation of environment in the public space in water town. This chapter presents the entire process of study in detail: the preparation, study object and selection of samples and so on. Then it analyze the survey data and to be concluded.Chapter Five is the conclusion. This section makes a overall summary from the results of the survey. And it discusses the deficiencies in the study. Finally makes some suggestions to the protection of water towns.
