Energy has been regarded as base of sustainable development of modern society, and also an important factor influencing climate changes. Therefore, energy strategy has been taken as the most important strategy against clobal climate changes. Being a recyclable clean energy resource, geothermal energy can be used for regional heating, which will bring vast social, economy, and environmental benefits.Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is a new mechanism based on the framework of"Kyoto Protocol"to reduce the global greenhouse gases (GHG) emission reduction cost. Developed countries are allowed to perform project-level cooperation with developing countries by the means of capital or technology assistance, so as to realize their emission reduction commitment in developing countries, which has also brought great opportunity for China.Our country has great potential in the CDM market, and also abundant geothermal resources. Geothermal heating technology has been developing very fast. However, there is neither applicable methodologies approved by CDM EB, nor example CDM Projects in the field of Geothermal Heating, which hinders China's progress of developing geothermal untilization CDM Projects as the Top One geothermal country in the world. And it is practical and urgent to perform study on CDM principles, new CDM methodologies and Project Design Document compilation.This dissertation has made systematical researches on the low and medium temperature geothermal field in Xiongxian County. Geothermal heating project design scheme has been developed on the basis of geothermal water sources analysis. Water-resource heat pump system has been applied to recycle the heat energy in the outlet water, so as to maximize geothermal utilization and reduce exploration amount; coupled-well backfill technology has been introduce suistainable exploration of large scale geothermal utilization; advanced metering and monitoring devices anf heating control technology has been designed for scientific utilization and effective energy-saving operation.The dissertation has introduced the principles, procedures and documentation requirements of CDM mechanism. It has been concluded that the Xiongxian geothermal heating project conforms to CDM requirements, which may bring an average emission reduction of 200,000 tons of CO2 if developed as CDM Project. Draft Project Design Document PDD for geothermal heating CDM projects has been made, which is innovative for both the methological study and project activities. The achievement of this study will promote import of advanced technology and international cooperation in the field of energy and environment.
