People have focused on the phenomenon of iron release in the drinking water distribution system more and more. The task constructs a mini network in a creative way and simulates the hydrodynamic and water quality condition of drinking water distribution system and then researches on the reasons that cause the phenomenon of iron release and the influence of the key water quality parameters on the drinking water distribution system.Firstly, the mini distribution system is built in the laboratory to simulate the actual distribution system. After more-than-one-month continual monitor, water quality status of mini network is investigated by analyzing every parameter and their influencing factors. Understanding of the key parameters especially the changing rule of iron content is pushed forward.Secondly, the relativity of water quality parameters data is analyzed by using the statistical software EXCEL and SPSS to find the key water quality parameters that have the close relationship with iron content in the mini network from the statistics angle. Finally, the free chlorine, pH, velocity of flow and ALK that have the close relationship with iron content and operate expediently are chosen as the important parameters to research on the next stage.Thirdly, the water quality parameters that are selected from the first experiment stage are researched nearly one month aim to research the relativity between the iron content and the different water quality parameters by dosing chemical medicine and changing the hydrodynamic condition to modulate the water quality parameters. The research find that increasing the free chlorine , pH, ALK can control the iron release; but increasing the velocity of flow may cause the iron content increase. Finally, the conclusion that obtained from the mini network experiment is validated by the water quality parameters data of actual drinking water distribution system monitor experiment that processed at the same time. The result indicate that a majority of conclusion accord with the actual drinking water distribution system. It shows that the mini network experiment has much practical value at studying the water quality parameters of drinking water distribution system.
