In order to increase the level of scientific management of water-supply corporation, building water supply networks information management and analysis system based on GIS is proposed. A sound water supply network data model based on Geodatabase is established and then the system is constructed using ArcGIS Engine 9.1 and VB.NET 2003. At last, the microscopic model of water supply network is performed using genetic algorithms and Monte-Carlo methods.First, according to analyzing several current methods to construct GIS spatial data model and the the problems that establishing the water supply network data model needs to address, Geodatabasede data model of ArcGIS is selected as the modeling tool. This kind of model has substantial performance and is suitable for modeling of complex network structures completely with the water supply network modeling needs. Then, using Visio as tool and ArcGIS Water as model, the water supply network spatial data model is constructed. The problems necessary to pay attention to and the modeling process is descipted in detail. How to define the custom bahabvior is also expalained with an example. This model is the foundation of the water supply network information management and analysis system. Then, through analysis of several popular GIS development modes and consider that the Geodatabase data model needs ArcObjects to do the read/write operation, ArcGIS Engine is selected to build the water supply network information management and analysis system. The system includes two subsystems: information management system and analysis system. It can manage the water supply network dynamically, scientificly and safely. And in support of SCADA system the system can do real-time simulation. So, it's compliance with the water company's day-to-day needs. Finally, the problems needed to be addressed through constructing water supply network model are analyzed. The key of solving model is determining the friction factor of every water pipe. According to system optimization theory the nonlinear programming model of friction factor is constructed and is solved by Genetic algorithm in which Monte-Carlo methods is used to design the cross and mutation operator. Based on the theory and object-oriented approach the calculation program is designed which combines water supply network information management system and water supply network microscopic model and improvs the water supply network analysis system. Then it's applied to a study of network modeling. 24 hours working conditions in a day are used to construct the microscopic model and 48 hours working conditions are used to test the model. Verification test results indicate that the average relative errors for the calculated value by model and the real measured value of every monitoring point are below two persent and three persent in the two certification programs. It's shown that the solution of the friction factor is more accurately and the model has strong adaptability. So, this method can be used in real-time simulation for water supply networks operating conditions.
