Analysis Of Zhangbi Ancient Fort And Study On Its Protection And Utilization

The traditional fort-type settlement holds abundant cultural information and has great value of culture and architectural history as the prototype and element of Chinese ancient city. The traditional configuration and characteristics of settlement can be maintained and the excellent historical tradition can be followed and promoted by making protection and utilization planning. Furthermore the study on conservation and utilization of traditional settlement not only can improve the living environments and quality, but also can create economic and social value by proper tourism exploitation.The thesis firstly analyzed and summarized the basal theories about conservation and development of architectural heritage and fort-type settlement in order to summarize the theories and experiences on protection and exploitation in China and out of country. Secondly introduced and analyzed Zhangbi Ancient Fort in Jiexiu, Shanxi province comprehensively and systematically. As showing the historical origin, form pattern and village scene of Zhangbi village, the study explored its historical and cultural connotation and analyzed its cultural background and social form in-depth. Finally based on understanding the local culture and life, the study connected with actual condition and current problems, and made the protection and utilization planning, in order to explore the best protective approach and the major solution.The research method of this thesis integrated basal theory study with representative example one and gave consideration to both culture and society, integrating cultural anthropology, sociology and history with architecture science. It carried out the inherent traditional culture of Zhangbi into the protection planning. The study put forward the concrete protection scheme and provided the specific protective program and scientific demonstration to tourism development or other purposes by studying on the protection and utilization planning of Zhangbi village. At the same time it explored some representative patterns of protection and possibilities of circumstances regenerating. The study hopes to offer some references and experiences in further research on the protection of our architectural heritage.
