The Study Of Revolution On The Traditional Fort-type Settlements In Hebei

The settlement of traditional forts and stockade villages has the important architectural historiography meaning. However, there is little research about traditional fort and stockade settlement in China now. On the other hand, fort and stockade settlement is facing a dangerous situation of extreme dwindlement because of the social and economic development, and its plentifully historical culture information will elapse gradually, too. Under such background, it has been very important to investigate the historical evolution and current condition of fort and stockade settlement.The paper is a part of the basic research of the martial settlements and defensive systems along the Great Wall of Ming dynasty. The author selects Hebei Province as research emphases, regarding these rich and varied on-the-spot investigation data as the foundation, drawing support from historical records, social chronicles, analyses historic relics and related data of fort and stockade settlement. The thesis consists of seven chapters:Chapter 1, this part is the introduction of the paper, summarizing the researching situation and objective and method of the study, introducing the frame of the paper.Chapter 2,the author analyses macroscopically on the construction system of the settlement of traditional forts and stockade villages. The paper also discusses about two systemic composing parts of traditional forts and stockade villages--influencing factors and manifestation modes, which is the most important ideological foundation of the study.Chapter 3,the author discusses mainly on the evolution of the settlement of traditional forts and stockade villages, and is divided into four historical parts: embryo period—from Neolithic Period to the end of Primitive Society Period; formative period—from Xia Dynasty to Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period; evolution period—from Qing Dynasty to Sui and Tang Dynasty; flourish period—from Song Dynasty to Ming and Qing Dynasty.Chapter 4,the author discusses mainly on the integrated environment and influencing factors of the naissance and development of traditional fort and stockade village settlement in Heibei Province, where the social influence is most important.Chapter 5 to Chapter 6, the author makes a thorough study in the manifestation modes of military fortress and stockade villages in Hebei Province. By using theoretical knowledge of history, sociology and anthropology etc, it also uncovers the inner connotative culture meaning, points out that the grading system of military fortress, the multi-fort towns and the modularized planning of the settlement of traditional forts and stockade villages are the key features.Finally, the paper combines the actual requirements, living environment and level of fort and stockade settlement, and provides the strategies of protection exploitation.
