Large wind farms have been fully developed since 1980s,because of their scaled benefits except for the particular advantage in energy saving and environment protection. However, wind power in restricted by the nature resource of wind, and the CVCF wind turbine set with induction generator is widely used,so the stability and supply quality of the system will be reduced. Wind power generation system(WPGS) exports the shunt compensator and the interface with whose terminal and power grid. the compensator are used to transform electric energy improve transient and dynamic stability of WPGS,stabilize the voltage at the wind generator terminal, and reduce bad influence due to wind power fluctuation on grid.Static synchronize compensator (STATCOM) is an important kind of FACTS devices , having faster adjustment character, input and output reactive power character and low dependence on voltage of grid, which is better than other conventional reactive compensator. In this dissertation, a new kind of dynamic static var compensator—STATCOM for WPGS has been profoundly studied. Based on the introducer of its operating principle, three-level technology and three single phase quadri-connected VSI based the main circuit topological structure is proposed. With the modeling approach in function of switchings, a mathematical model of STATCOM is developed. The harmonic elimination technologies of STATCOM are analyzed. Two control strategies of STATCOM are discussed which include direct-current control strategy and indirect-current control strategy. The design basing on indirect-current contrl sreategy is simulated by MATLAB Simulink, the simulation waveforms are gained to demonstrate its feasibility and availability.
