With development of research on aerospace, the number of space debris increases quickly, which seriously threats the safety of spacecraft. In order to improve the safety of spacecraft, it is necessary to study on shield design for spacecraft, commonly by hypervelocity impact experiment on the ground, which can verify the shield design and provide the reliable data.At present, two-stage light gas gun (LGG) is commonly used in ground experiment. Velocity measurement is very important and difficult in the experiment, which determined the reliability of the experiment results. At the same time, the operation of LGG also have some potential dangers. Coping with modern sensor and computer control technologies, this paper focused on the measurement of projectile velocity and distant control of the LGG experiment system of HIT Hypervelocity Impact Research Center.First of all, this paper introduced several common methods of velocity measurements at home and abroad. Then measurement method based on the laser shading was proposed by exploring the merits and demerits of the methods above. Further schemes and principles about velocity measurement platform, inspecting circuit and velocity measuring circuit were well introduced and discussed.Secondly, an aluminum projectile velocity test was performed via the system, compared with magnetic velocity measurement, high reliability was achieved. The testing results were carefully analyzed, further suggested some improvement of the accuracy by weakening the gas disturbance and ameliorating the high frequency characteristics of circuits.Finally, the paper extended the research of the two-stage LGG control system. By optimizing the sensor data collection, more exact display result was obtained. Furthermore, it illustrated the modeling method of control box design and achieved the synchronous display between the module and the computer monitor. Software developing process was detailed introduced, as well as the essential data structures and interface functions of the sample/control card were instructed.
