The Study On Aldo Rossi's Theory System

Everything in the universe is developing constantly, so are city and architecture. As the gradually developed substantial civilization human beings created, the spiritual civilization is also constantly advancing and developing, so is the internal civilization. However, there is a type of"collective unconsciousness"in the human being's architectural civilization memory, and it stretches steadily at all times. This"collective unconsciousness"comes from the urban traditional architectural elements and urban traditional sense of place, and instructs the developments of city and architecture. Thus, people formed the science of typology by means of research of the"collective unconsciousness". Aldo Rossi was the steersman of typology, he emphasized the search of the origin of architecture on the basis of regarding types; his theoretical system is a search of extrication of architecture; he endeavored in discovering the"immutability"of architecture and attempted to seek the value of the form itself on the background of the integration, complexity and humanization of city at the point of urban life.This thesis has a study on the theoretical system of Aldo Rossi, firstly, it both has a systematic study on Aldo Rossi's urban architecture theory, the Rational-Typology and the"Analogical City"Theory and also has a summary and discussion of his architecture practices which are on the basis of summarizing the origin and the development of typology theory. In a word, Aldo Rossi's urban architecture theory is a view of"city-architecture"which is at the point of history and based on architecture morphology; it condenses the"collective memory"of human beings. Aldo Rossi considered the city as a comprehensive carrier of a series of activities, such as economy, culture and living; and the city itself is an undivided constituent part.In addition, this thesis has a speculation on Aldo Rossi'theoretical system, it has a recognition on his urban architecture theory by means of comparison and analysis first; then it has a sectional analysis from the aspects of his drawings, philosophy trends and religionary emotions. Since Rossi's theory has a duality of rationalism and humanity in the sense of philosophy, he had obvious contradiction, on one hand, he emphasized the sense of place, on the other hand, he emphasized architecture was determined by its own type and it had"autonomous complex"; and on one hand, he had the strict and rational architectural theory and design style, on the other hand, he lingered between"death"and"life", indulged his sensibility in the insolent and colorful world.Lastly, this thesis approves the positivity of Aldo Rossi'urban architecture theory, and provides the practical significance of researching the system of Aldo Rossi'urban architecture theory based on the diversity of different economy and culture between east and west. Aldo Rossi'typology theory provides a measure of studying; we should absorb the essence and discard the dross, and apply it to contemporary urban construction better.
