By studying the principle and the methods of time interval measurement, a multi-channel time interval measurement system based on technology of VI (Virtual Instrument), is designed, and accomplished in this paper.Time and frequency measurement is an important part in electronic measurement field. With the rapidly development of the technology of semiconductor and VLSI, the significance of time interval measurement in national economy and defence become more and more obvious. Recently, the technology of time interval measurement has already well developed and the precision and resolution of the device has made a great improvement. With the development and popularization of computer technology, the advantage of VI to replace traditional device has shown gradually. It is necessary to design a time interval measurement system with technology of VI.In this paper, a appropriate time interval measurement method is chosen by studying its principle. The system design and the scheme of each module is proved. The paper is separated into three part, measurement part, communication and control part, analyze and display part. The paper firstly shows the configuration of the scheme and the circuit diagram of measurement part. Signal modulation and measurement in programming is analyzed and emulated. Then, the paper makes a generally introduction of USB 2.0 and a chip with USB2.0 interface. A driver of USB interface and the dynamic link library based on this chip are designed. Finally, by showing the conception of VI (Virtual Instrument) and its software implement of LabWindows/CVI, the user's soft panel is designed and the illumination of the software is given.In the end of the paper, the result of the test of time interval measurement system is shown and analyzed.
