With the development of consumer electronics,communications and computer technology, the importance of power management is becoming more obvious.The monolithic SMPS(Switch Mode Power Supply) management IC was popular used in computer,electronic equipment,communications equipment for its low power consumption, high efficiency,lowest component.Electronic equipment becomes smaller and lower cost,which has been making switching power supply light,small,thin and high efficiency.Based on SMIC CMOS 0.13um technology and using Composer and Spectre tools of Cadence EDA,a type of BUCK single-chip controller is designed for portable battery-operated system,It works at 1MHz with current-mode pulse width modulation(PWM).Its range of input voltage is 2.4 V to 4.2V,the typical switching frequency is 1 MHz,the typical output voltage is 1.2 V,and efficiency of power conversion is above 85%.The chip is particularly suitable for portable battery-powered equipment,we can build a complete power solution,only need fewer and smaller external components.This paper introduces the basic theory of BUCK topography and current-mode PWM firstly, then the total structure of the single-chip controller is present according to the function requirement and the working theory and the working principle are showed based on its actual application.In chapter four,all of the sub-circuits are designed and simulated,including Bandgap Voltage Reference,OTA,Oscillator,Hysteretic Comparator,Dead-Time Control Temperature-Protection and so on.As a result,all of the sub-circuits are satisfied the requirements.The synthetic circuit is also simulated and the results of simulation meet the function requirement.In the circuit design,the low power of IC and stability of system are the emphasis and difficult steps,testing results have proven the solutions to these problems successful.
