In this thesis, a new route of vacuumed gas phase adsorption for making the dye-sensitized TiO2 porous film was used to fabricate the DSSC, in which eosin Y was used as the sensitizer instead of general used N3 dye. Photoelectrochemical investigations suggest that the vacuumed gas phase adsorption method has the obvious advantage in enhancing the solar energy conversion efficiency of the resulted DSSC, as compared to the normal used dip-coating method.1. Preparation of eosin-sensitized TiO2 porous film: doctor blade method was used to prepare TiO2 porous films. Eosin-sensitized TiO2 films were obtained by reacting of eosin vapor with TiO2 film, which was pre-heat-treated at 400℃under vacuum. Various factors such as vapor reaction temperature were changed, and their UV-Vis absorption properties were investigated, which were compared to the normal used dip-coating method.2. Photoelectrochemical properties of eosin-sensitized DSSCs: the Eosin-sensitized TiO2 film was used to fabricate the DSSCs and photoelectrochemical properties were investigated. A large increase of the solar to energy conversion efficiency of 0.98% for DSSC obtained from the vacuumed vapor adsorption route at vapor reaction temperature of 160℃was obtained, as compared to that of 0.66% from the dip-coating route. Furthermore, the IPCE as well as the amount of dye deposited on TiO2 was characterized, and a possible reason was suggested.
