The synchronous phasor measurement unit (PMU) based on global positioning system (GPS) which can directly measure the nodal voltage phasors is a new type of measurement device. According to the power system coherency, the optimal phasor measurement unit placement has been researched. In this paper, according to the fussy and uncertainty of the coherent generator groups dividing, fussy mathematics theory has been used to recognizing coherent generator groups in power system. The math models based on indicator for coherence and the fuzzy clustering in recognizing coherent generator groups has been deduced. The merits and flows of the two models has been compared through the case simulation. The relationship of the coherence of the power system and the selection of the fault has been indicated. The paper imported the theory of the Rough Set, then used it to reduce the set of the fault and delete the redundancy attributes. The case simulation indicates that the theory of the Rough Set is the efficient method for deleting the redundancy faults in recognizing coherent generator groups.
