In this thesis, methods of improving transfer capability of 500kV lines in North China power grid are studied. Main contents are as follows:1. Operating experience of lines adopting compact transmissions technology was investigated. Status of compact transmission technology in North China power grid, South China power grid, Brazil and Thailand were analyzed.2. Principles of improving natural power, static stability and transient stability level by adopting compact transmissions technology are analyzed.3. Characterics of power grid in north China and power flow distribution are analyzed, and it is pointed out that the cutset of transmission lines in south Beijing-Tianjin is the weakest part of North China power grid. It is suggested that adopting compact transmission technology in this transmission corridor can improve the transfer capability of North China power grid.
