By using commercial software ANSYS, the flow field, temperature field and electromagnetic field of liquid metal (GaInSn) in fault current limiter was simulated with the Finite Element Method. Then the relationships among them were analyzed. The thesis belongs to the electriomagnetic hydrodynamics category.First of all, the thesis introduced the applicability and development of fault current limiter. The temperature fields of Hg fault current limiter and GaInSn fault current limiter were numercial simulated. By contrast with the experiment data, the effect of temperature in limit fault current has been estimated. At first of electromagnetic field chapter, using FORTRAN programs and commercial software ANSYS, two examples of electromagnetic field was computed. A comparison of numerical results and exact results has been shown to prove the correctness of using ANSYS. The same way was used to simulate the electromagnetic field of GaInSn fault current limiter, therefore got the results of magnetic force. Based on it, the turbulence flow driven by the magnetic forces was simulated. Through the non-free surface and the free surface flow analysis, discussed how flows work in the fault current limiter. The results of the studying and researching coincide with that of the experiments. The results show that the analytical methods and calculation model can help the design of GaInSn fault current limiter.
