The author researches the stress and displacement state of the bank of Mashuihe river by three-dimensional model test, and also researches the failure mode of the bank of Mashuihe river under failure load. The results show that, under design bridge load ,the bank slope is steady and the displacement of the bridge foundation is very small. The displacement has little influence on the stability of the bank slope. The breakdown test shows that the Wanzhou bank slope will fail before the Yichang bank slope, and the failure mode is shear failure and tensile failure of the rock mass under bridge foundation. All these show that the extroversion lamination is a disadvantageous factor for Wanzhou bank slope stability. For absolute security of the bridge, reinforcing the rock mass under bridge foundation is suggested. The author also simulates the displacement state and failure mode of the bank slope by the Distinct Element Method. Although the paper is based on three-dimensional model test, the three-dimensional Distinct Element Method is Complex and at the preliminary study stage .Two-dimensional Distinct Element Method is relatively perfect, therefore the three-dimensional datas are mapped in the two-dimensional plane. UDEC based on the Distinct Element Method is used to simulate the displacement state. The results indicate that there are 13mm additional vertical displacement and 1.9mm additional horizontal displacement near bridge foundation. The rock mass of Wanzhou bank is failure under bridge foundation's rear and the rock mass of Yichang bank is just opposite.
