Research On The Application Of Sichuan Folk Hand-Stitching Work In Interior Decoration

With the globalization of world economy and culture, and rapid development of the society, many traditional ethnological handicrafts have been shocked that they never met before are under the crisis of running its own course. They are gradually loosing their living condition and eroded by the mighty modern culture. Therefore, the continuity of these handicrafts has been interrupted. The Sichuan folk hand-stitching work as an artistry belongs to the national invaluable intangible heritage. However, it is also suffering from the above problem. Therefore, how to properly pass on Sichuan folk hand-stitching work, and how to let this traditional handicraft that almost forgotten by people blossom again in modern Chinese society are the major questions this thesis aims to address.First of all, this thesis dwells on the various aspects of Sichuan folk hand-stitching work, including its development, stitch, design pattern, and the geographic and cultural environment it emerged.Second, this thesis deals with the question of how to apply Sichuan folk hand-stitching work to interior decoration, which is very challenging but meaningful. By dealing with this, other issues such as "the passing on and innovation of traditional craftwork", "integration of traditional craftwork with modern life" and so on can all be addressed. This part then researches on the material, design pattern, and color of hand-stitching workFinally, by dealing with the following two questions: the passing on and innovation of traditional craftwork in current environment, the possibility of integrating traditional craftwork with modern life, this thesis reflects on the status quo of Sichuan folk hand-stitching work. Value of this thesis lies in the following two aspects. (1) Value of traditional Chinese craftwork has been recurred by the study of history, environment, and characteristics of Sichuan folk hand-stitching work. And the author hopes that this will help enable the young to better understand Chinese traditional craftwork, especially the hand-stitching work. (2) The thesis's application of hand-stitching work to modern interior decoration provides a new viewpoint to the passing on and innovation of traditional craftwork. Lastly, the author sincerely hopes that this study can contribute to the works of fellows laboring and friends interested in this field.
