With rapid development of the industry and agriculture, the demand quantity of film is increasing day by day. Film products are widely applied in agricultural production, electronics industry, chemical analysis and so on. We also present the different requests to the film thickness according to different applications and environments. If we carry out thickness measurement and control in the production process of film, we can not only save the raw materials but also guarantee the quality, Moreover, it is favorable for high speed and steady operation of the production line.The advantages of application of the real time thickness measurement equipment can be illustrated as following. It can obtain thickness test data at the quickest speed, and through data analysis, the parameters of the production line can be adjusted in time to shorten the start-up time. The disadvantage is that a scanning frame which matches with the production line must be provided for the equipment. To a certain degree, it restricts reuse of the real time thickness measurement equipment.In this paper, the introduction to the establishment and implementation of the measurement and control proposals for the film thickness measurement equipment is given in detail. Adopting single-chip to control the servo motor and receive the signals from encoder and CCD, and the virtual instrument software LabVIEW to build up the surface of the measurement and control, the control of the position of the optical sensor and the obtaining of the signal has been realized. Then we do the calibrating experiments of the measurement system, and give the detail steps of compensation and realization of the program. We also carry out the analysis to the experimental data, find the reason of poor repeatability of the system, and propose the improving method which is helpful to our further work.Finally, this paper introduces the design on the instrument for relative dielectric constant of film, which is one part of film thickness measurement method using capacitive sensor. Compared with the optical method, capacitive method has its advantage that it has a high measuring accuracy (usually achieve 0.5%) and quick dynamic response.This project was proposed by Shanghai Hongyang mechanic Ltd..
