With fast development of power system and the scale of electrical network expand constantly, the fault information processing system can effectively increase the level of dispatch information and intelligent in power network safe operation, provide real-time fault information for dispatch system and recover system quickly and effectively, evaluate protection action scientifically and objectively, reduce the workload of the accident analysis, save the time of the accident analysis. The paper studies application functions of the fault information processing system based on effective technology and simulation tools. In all function modules, this effort emphasizes on the fault diagnosis function module and the protection action analysis function module.When complex fault occurs or uncertain factors appear, such as mal-operation, miss operation and missing messages because of channel disturbance, the existing power system diagnosis methods based on switch and protection messages do not provide correct conclusions. To settle this problem, the authors propose a new method to diagnose faults in power network in which the fault information is made good use of. At first, the protections and circuit breakers are taken as conditional attributes and faulty region as decision-making attribute, various faults are investigated and decision table is established; by use of attribute reducing method based on cognizable matrix and information entropy, the optimal attribute reduction combination is extracted; using the result of the fault information analysis, the values in the optimal attribute reduction combination are amended; finally the result could be given by the decision table. Results of calculation examples show that the method is correct and effective, the limitations of using the protection and switch messages for fault diagnosis are effectively remedied and can improve the fault tolerance capability, so the method is available.Protection action information is the important evidence for fault diagnosis and accident analysis. Along with the establishment of the information network for protective relaying and fault recorders, the plentiful recorded fault data lay a foundation for protection action analysis. The protection equipment is a hybrid system with both continuous dynamic and discrete events. Matlab is the efficient tools for analyzing and researching the hybrid systems. The protection action analysis method is proposed, in which the action processes of protection relaying are modeled based on the Stateflow toolbox in Matlab, the fault information is made good use of .The simulation example of distance protection is given to illustrate the method. The result of simulation shows that using stateflow for protection action analysis is intuitional and effective.The fault information processing system is a support system of operation and management of relay protection, at the same time, it is an information assistant, analysis assistant and decision support system at the time of faults power grid. According to the theories associated, this paper figure out the preliminary design of The fault information processing system and demonstrate the functions modules implemented partly of the software system. A lot of problem is worthy of discussing about the application functions of fault information processing system. The study of this paper is just to have a try, and relevant work needs further study.
