Structural experiment plays a very important role on structural engineering and earthquake engineering, especially on the research of earthquake-resistant performance. The complexity of earthquake mechanism, structural earthquake-resistant performance, and the development of structural engineering technology makes structural experiment face great challenge, including complication, large-scale and real-time. In order to complete an experiment, it is becoming a trend to share and integrate experimental resource. The popularization of computer and development of network facilitate it. Remote collaborative structure experiment emerges as the times require. It is the forward research field of international civil engineering academia.At present, the system of remote collaborative structure experiment based on OpenFresco has been developed by the University of California at Berkeley in America, which builds up a network protocol platform to integrate numerical simulation and experimental control system. Especial software OpenSees was used to carry out numerical simulation. From the application level, steel material, concrete material, nonlinear beam-column element based on rigidity method and flexibility method, and fiber finite element model of OpenSees were expatiated in this paper. According to earthquake response analysis of three-story RC frame, a theoretical model for remote collaborative structure experiment was set up.The system of remote collaborative structure experiment based on OpenFresco enable numerical simulation and experimental control system to connect together, then carry out network hybrid experiment. Experimental element, boundary condition simulation of experimental element, experimental setup and signal communication between experimental setup and experimental control system were studied. With the simulation of LAN and Internet collaborative structure experiment, the analysis methods of remote collaborative structure experiment based on OpenFresco were discussed. The feasibility of using the system of the remote collaborative structure experiment based on OpenFresco to carry out a real hybrid experiment was explored.Finally, in order to carry out a real remote collaborative structure experiment based on OpenFresco, a three-story steel frame was analyzed by finite element analysis software OpenSees Navigator which combines OpenSees with Matlab GUI. A simulation of collaborative structure experiment on LAN based on OpenFresco was carried out. Compared with the real test, the rationality and reliability of the analysis program were validated. A necessary theory guide for further theoretical analysis and real remote collaborative structure experiment based on OpenFresco was provided.
