How to determining the bearing capacity of stratified rock foundation with slope shoulder as bearing sueface is an important engineering problem, which must been faced by geotechnical engineers and researchers now. The paper studied systemically on the mechanical parameters of stratified rock mass. Taking intensity of structural plane, intensity of rock, trend and angle of inclination of structural plane and so on as important parameters, failure mode ,critical condition and distinguish criteria were set up on the a set of stratified rock foundation with anisotropic configuration surface. In the basic of ultimate analysis theory (especially ultimate balance method and Slip-line method), researched completely calculating theory on the ultimate bearing capacity of stratified rock foundation with slope shoulder as bearing surface, then got below achievement.(1) The method of how to choose number on mechanical parameter of stratified rock mass is studied, and corresponding calculating formula was advised.(2) Buckling failure is analysed and studied by creatively using the principle of 'stability of compressed bar', and the possible thickness of causing buckling failure was deduced.(3) Based on the analysis of effect factors on stability of stratified rock foundation, the eight possible failure modes were given with different parameters combination on stratified rock foundation with slope shoulder as bearing surface, and critical condition and distinguish criteria about each failure mode were also given.(4) In the foundation of ultimate balance method and Slip-line method, calculating formulas on ultimate loads (bearing capacity, including vertical bearing capacity and horizontal bearing capacity) to slope shoulder were deduced with six failure modes. How to use these formulas was introduced by detail example later.(5) With known calculating formulas on ultimate loads to slope shoulder of six failure modes, the formula of how much reinforce force is required on slope surface is deduced reversely. Then the usage of these formulas is introduced by actual examples.(6) Firstly considering the rock weight and angle of internal friction, when using slip-line method to solve slope stability, the ultimate bearing capacity of slope shoulder and reinforce force of slope surface. The defect of slip-line method without weight was overcame and the applicability of slip-line method is improved.(7) In the basis of Min theory of Pan Jiazheng, the worst slip surface is found by creatively using the changeability about face of discontinuous stress to the characteristic of failure on stratified rock slop that have dip gentle plane or horizontal plane. Then relevant step and approach are referred.In this paper, the mechanical parameter of stratified rock mass is forecasted. Some systemic researches on failure modes, the ultimate bearing capacity of slope shoulder, reinforce force of slope surface with a set of stratified rock slope were carried firstly. There are important theoretic meaning, actual meaning and broad application outlook for solving difficult problem of engineering, directing engineering practice and the improvement of bearing capacity theory of rock foundation.
