In recent years, the development and research of the general controller for the motors from single-phase to multiphase obtains much attention. Many kinds of motors in miniature and new style have come into our lives. It seems that the motor becoming more and more pocket-sized, but the controller of motor is also more difficult to design. At present, a set of smart and general controller has been needed urgently, which cannot only meet the motor's operating, also be used for other kinds of motor with the same power compatibly.In this paper, a set of small capacity and low power general controller for 1-3 phase AC motors has been designed which are used for U-shape single-phase permanent motor, double-phase motor and brushless DC motor that are commonly used in our lives. During the design, it has been divided into three parts that are power inversion, the driving signals of motors and the programming of PIC microchip.Firstly elaborating the control principle of single phase to three phase AC motors, and using single-phase half-bridge converter as the topology unit. The single-phase converter can be expanded into three phase converter as the general controller power circuit. Secondly, the driving part of the controller has been designed based on PIC16F877A microchip including the control signal and the insulation blocking. A kind of control arithmetic as the sinusoidal pulse width modulation has been used to help PIC microchip to produce SPWM by programming. Comparing the asymmetric regular sampling and the symmetric sample, and determines the former as the control method, which is used to produce SPWM by programming with PIC. Finally, the empirical data have been gathered. The problems and the technical prospects have also been analyzed, and also forecasting this kind of technology and the application values.The appearance of the general controller has largely saved the factory cost of the motor's control, and it makes the motor more convenient and the control method simpler. Also it is probable for the inversion to be large capacity and high performance. Therefore it is extremely vital significance to research and develop the general controller for the motors from single-phase to multiphase in the technology and the application.
