This thesis consists of two parts. The first part studies the traffic flow control and the algorithm of solution for the multiple lanes. The second part establishes a new traffic flow control model and discusses the algorithm of solution by combining destruction rate of pavement with the toll of freeway. In the first part, firstly the single lane traffic flow model is introduced. The traffic flow is related with vehicles' average speed and the average density. We discuss the relationship between the traffic flow and the average speed of vehicles, the relationship between traffic flow and the average density of vehicles as well as the relationship between average speed of vehicles and the average density of vehicles.Secondly, several behaviors are discussed about the lane-changing of vehicles in the two lane's traffic flow model.By controlling the rate of lane-changing on each behavior, different control strategies are provided to maximize overall traffic flow. Finally, simulation analysis is presented aiming at one kind of complex changing-lane behavior. In the second part, the macroscopic dynamic discrete traffic flow model is analyzed at first.A freeway could be divided into certain sections from the macroscopic view, and every section' traffic flow influences each other and every section' traffic flow is restrained by the quantity of vehicles. The traditional freeway traffic flow control model maximizes the traffic flow to an ideal level by on-ramp metering. But the traditional model doesn't consider the benefit of operators of freeway. In fact, each vehicle is tolled according to its carrying capacity;a vehicle which has greater load-carrying capacity and bigger type are charged more in unit distance.Meanwhile,to some extent each vehicle has destructive effect to the freeway surface;a vehicle which has greater load-carrying capacity and bigger type has much destruction on the freeway. In view of the limitation of single objective traffic flow control model, and considering the benefits of both users and operators of freeway,a multi-objective optimization control model is proposed by considering traffic flow on each road sections and the destruction rate of vehicles on the road surface as well as the on-ramp tolls. The effectiveness of the new model is illustrated by computer simulation.
