As one of the important component of a steam turbine-generator unit, the performance of the condenser has significant effect on the safe and economic efficiency of the power plant. The condenser of the power plant is a huge and difficult heat exchanger with the difficult steam flow and heat transfer process. Numerical simulation has become a most important tool on condenser study.Firstly the operation condition of condenser is predigested. According the study before, the N-S equations corrected by porous media are precisely deduced in this paper. The formula of the resistance and mass based on porous media and boundary condition are given in detail. A three-dimensional model of condenser based on porous media theory is developed. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method is employed to simulate numerically fluid flow in the interior space of a condenser with the application of porous media model. The CFD software FLUENT is introduced, according the setting process, the setting of correlative parameter of porous media model in the software Fluent is discussed in detail. The application of the resistance, mass and heat source in FLUENT is expounded.A quasi-three-dimensional numerical simulation of shell side of a condenser is accomplished on the basis of Fluent using the model mentioned above. The steam flow and heat transfer details in the chambers are achieved .characteristics of the flow in the steamThe simulation result is analyzed, and some helpful conclusion is found. The influence of different temperature of up-down cooling water on the steam flow and heat transfer process is discussed. The method can be used to the simulation of the tube-shell heat exchanger. The flow behavior in the condenser can provide a theoretical basis for optimal design and safety analysis. At last, review the chief work of this thesis, across of the analysis of currently research, point out the problems existing and forecast of the future research. According the experience of using the software Fluent, some opinion is given. The particular UDF program is displayed in the addenda.
