The Oblique arch bridge has wide adaptability and has no strict requirements on the contraction apparatus and supporting conditions. The bridge has advantages especially in the mountainous areas. Unfortunately, the strength performance is not clear, which affects the popularity of this bridge. Moreover, the theory of the oblique arch bridge drops behind the practice. Now the diseases of skew bridges build in the early years have been emerging continuously. This influences the normal use of the bridges and the reinforcement is need urgently. There are few references for the problem. According to the case, the structure analysis and strengthening technique for the old oblique multiple-hole arch bridge are presented. A two-hole arch bridge is taken as an example.The major work has been done is as follows:1. Based on the related references, the theoretical study of the mechanical characteristics for the single-span arch bridge is presented. The shortages of the plane simplify calculation has been pointed out. At the same time, the space analysis of the arch skew has been carried out.2. With the usage of MIDAS software and space elements, the model of a single-span arch bridge in various skewness is established. The design parameters (span-height ratio) have been changed, and the variations of the bridge forces, stresses and displacements are compared. The typical force characteristics of the single-span arch bridge are summered.3. According to the problem in which the oblique arch bridge design theory is based on the single-span arch bridge and the study on the structure strength characteristics is deficient, the structure analysis and strengthening technique for the old oblique multiple-hole arch bridge are presented. The static and dynamic characteristics of two-span bridge are studied mainly. A series of valuable results for the bridge design and reinforcement have been obtained.4. Based on the previous theoretical study of the oblique multiple-hole arch bridge, the diseases characteristics and its causes of Songyang River are analyzed. ANSYS software and space FEM model are used for calculation. According to the theoretical analysis results and the application requirements, the strengthening program has been proposed. At the same time, the computation simulation for the program of mechanical behavior and the reinforcing effect are carried out. The results show that the strengthening program has been validated.The space mechanical study and the diseases analysis of the oblique arch bridge have not only a guide to the present project, but also have an active role for the consummation of the bridge theory and advancement of strengthening technique. The results can be a good reference for the similar engineering subjects.
