Characterized with high power output per liter, high power weight ratio, and even can be assembled inverted, the small two-stroke gasoline engine is the best power option for small aviation aircraft. In comparison with gasoline, kerosene has higher flash point, better evaporation property and higher safety. It has been widely used in aviation field because of the merits in energy density, storage and so on. A military application can be found when changing the two-stroke gasoline engine fuel into aviation kerosene. But kerosene is not easily ignited, and combustions slowly. To meet the kerosene combustion, the ignition time and the minimum energy of ignition for two-stroke engine should be re-calibrated. And the major ignition system modules magneto, igniter, etc,also need to be redesigned.Target to set a high-energy digital CDI (capacitor discharge ignition) magneto ignition system with precise ignition timing and higher ignition energy, the magneto CDI system of small two-stroke gasoline engine was studied in this paper. This paper presents the following study results:This paper established a new digital CDI magneto ignition system for a small two-stoke gasoline engine. The influence of ignition time on engine was analyzed and the ignition timing Maps were plotted. The hardware and software of the signal acquisition unit, digital ignition controller, the ignition executive unit used in this digital CDI magneto ignition system was finished. The testing methods and testing platform was founded to test the ignition timing. The testing results showed that this new system can precisely control the ignition timing according to the ignition Maps.A physical simulation module of high charging voltage magnetor was designed. The ignition energy of the new digital CDI magneto ignition system with high charging voltage and optimized ignition circuit was tested on the magnetor testing bench. The testing results showed that the measures taken to improve the ignition energy can work.All the experiment results proved that the methods and actions taken at this paper can precisely control the ignition timing and improve the ignition energy at the same time. This paper completed some of the fundamental research works for the development of the future kerosene engine ignition system.
