As the concept of sustainable development strikes deep roots among people, green design has become the trend in the field of engineering. The pneumatic muscle actuator(PMA) which takes the compressed air as working medium has the qualities of high power-to-weight ratio, simple structure, and wouldn't pollute the environment, and as a result conforms to the idea of green design perfectly. Compared with the traditional rigid cylinder, PMA has a lighter weight and smaller inertial force, whereas it can exert an axial force which is equivalent to ten times of that the traditional rigid cylinder which has the same diameter produces.Although has all sorts of superiority, at present the PMAs are only used in logistics, medical recovery, robotics equipments and so on. It is necessary to expand the application domain of PMAs. The main work is as follows.Firstly, combining the PMAs and the mechanical force amplifiers, many kinds of new-style force amplifiers are designed, and the corresponding mechanics calculating formulas of output force are provided. Based on the simulation software ADAMS, the toggle three-stage force amplifier actuated by PMA is modeled and the simulation is taken.Secondly, several pneumatic-hydraulic composite transmission devices actuated by PMAs are designed. The output flow and liquid pressure of the devices are given.Thirdly, taking a common part as the example, the chief processes of the part are analyzed. The clamping fixtures actuated by PMAs of milling process are designed, and the superiority are analyzed relative to traditional clamping fixture, by which overhang the unique characteristics of the PMA.Fourthly, PMAs are used in the 3-PRS parallel mechanism and the 3-PRS parallel robot driven by PMAs is studied.Finally, the finite element model of PMA is studied. Based on the nonlinear finite element analysis(FEA) software ABAQUS, the simplified model of PMA is established and the study of stress, strain are carried on.
