Increasing the railway transport capacity and traffic volume has an important significance for the development of Railway Transportation Industry, and even our nationnal economy growth. Developing the high speed and heavy haul railway is the main means to realize it. In the recent years, with the further process of reform and opening up and the rapid national economic development, the contradiction between the transport capacity and traffic is increasingly outstanding, therefore, developing the high speed and heavy haul transport is an urgent problem.Because of the increase of train quality, length and the vehicle gross rail load on axle that caused the increase of hauling force and brake force in operation, the extension of brake wave transmit time, and the crossing section of the working line of train is also complex. Therefore,the stress condition of heavy-haul train is more complex. The experience with the development of heavy haul transportation in the world wild shows that the pull quality of heavy-haul train depend on the technical condition of locomotive and vehicle equipment mainly, so vehicle buffer is one of the crucial technology. The performance of the buffer may directly affect the characteristics of longitudinal dynamics. So, developing the new buffer has important significance in realization of the high speed and heavy haul transportation.In this paper,further researches on hydro-pneumatic buffer was done. Based on understanding the structural characteristics,working principle and static and dynamic performance of the hydro-pneumatic buffer, the train longitudinal dynamics simulation model was established in the environment of MATLAB/SIMULINK. Using the simulation model to calculate the train longitudinal dynamics of four different forms of train formation , which the traction weight rises to 6000t, 10000t, 20000t from 5000t.The calculating results show that the hydro-pneumatic buffer can satisfy the use requirements when the traction weight of trains is from 5000t,6000t to 10000t, when the traction weight of trains is 20000t, by using the technology of the wireless Multi-locomotive synchronic operation and control system for locomotive, if the synchronizing response time between the master control locomotive and slave control locomotive is less than 4s, the hydro-pneumatic buffer can meet also the operating requirements; else the synchronizing response time more than 4s, the 20000t heavy haul trains will have the danger of coupler fracture.
