The static non-linear analysis is a fundamental method for Performance-based design which is the direction of structural seismic design. It is a simplified method and has been employed more and more in seismic analysis because it is easy to be implemented and is a more accurate analysis method. Also it can efficiently simulate structure elastic behavior, crack and damage. At the same time the weakness in the structure could be discovered by use of this method. The static non-linear analysis has showed great value in reinforced concrete structure and steel structure, in which an amount of research work has been achieved. But it is hardly used in the masonry structures. Therefore, applying this method in seismic analysis of the masonry structures will indicate significance both in theory and practice. In the thesis, four representative energy conservation masonry buildings are selected for analysis. And some work has been done.1. In this paper the development and the present situation of the static non-linear analysis method are discussed. The fundamental theory and the application of static non-linear method analysis are introduced. And also the remaining questions in the method needed to be solved are proposed.2. 77 earthquake recordings are selected for input to the 4 masonry buildings. The acceleration peak values are modified to represent the fortification earthquake and rare earthquake respectively. And then dynamic non-linear analysis is performed as well as static non-linear analysis. It analyzes the seismic response of the 4 masonry buildings, including maximum top displacement, the maximum floor drift angle and the maximum shearing force.3. Comparing the results both the static non-linear analysis and the time-history analysis, it shows close results when the structure is in the elastic state and the crack state. But the difference increases after dramatic damage, generally 20%, which indicates the static non-linear analysis is accessible for approximate analysis.4. The influence of the site category on the masonry structures: the seismic response of masonry structure is large for the site II, because of the little difference between the characteristic period of the site and the natural period of the structure.5. Based on the time-history analysis of six-story concrete hollow block building and 6-story porous brick building under the fortification earthquake and rare earthquakeâ…§, the rule of'No Collapsing With Strong Earthquake'can not be fulfilled. Therefore, it suggests ,in the ?Code for seismic design of building?, that the heights of masonry buildings are no more than 15m (5 story) in the area of intensityâ…§.
