In Zhejiang province, more than 60% of the populations live in mountain area. With economic development of mountain area, people are living a happy life and people have higher requirements for housing conditions than ever before. Construction level of mountain area is important to city construction, economic development and land conservation. Focused on the particular construction sites of mountainous areas in Zhejiang province, the paper made a systematic study on houses' grounding model, treatment for common grounds, common foundation types and protecting measures against common geological disasters in mountainous areas, etc. Some conclusions are made as follows.1. By study on the natural environment, landscape type and topography, it shows that 70% lands of the province appropriating for human living are most distributed in the southwest and southern regions of the province.2. Based on the peculiar topography, through investigation foundation types in mountainous areas of the province are summarized, whose characteristics, applied materials, conditions and construction methods are analyzed respectively.3. By survey on site, the influences of geology, topography, natural conditions of housing in mountain area are summarized in the paper. In addition, the residential housing types are also described, on basis of which several modes of building grounding are also concluded and illustrated with pictures respectively.4. Six common ground types in mountainous areas of the province and their features are analyzed, and the treatments for them are also put forward.5. Based on foundation type of mountain area, foundation type is put forward for buildings in Linan mountain area.6. Through analysis of distribution characteristics, causes, formation conditions of the common geological disasters in mountainous areas of the province, the developing trends of various geological disasters in mountainous areas are forecasted, for which some specific prevention measures are also put forward in the paper.
