The hydroreactive metal fuel ramjet is a new underwater engine which uses the reaction among seawater outside underwater turbine as one of the oxidant, and metal fuel brought by the engine. The hydroreactive metal fuel possesses outstanding high energy characteristics and can obviously improve fuels loading capability of engine, and it is also the best choice on power energy for underwater super-cavitations propulsion system.Firstly, the paper introduces the hydroreactive metal fuel system, the reaction mechanism of the metal fuel, and basic theory of metal combustion. The paper also presents the thermodynamic calculation and performance calculation models of water ramjet. Secondly, a calculation for different formulations of hydroreactive metal fuel has been implemented by using a self-designed calculation program for ramjet's energetic property. With the result, the paper analyzes the effect with different formulations, and it also analyzes hydroreactive metal fuel's specific impulse performance under the condition of two-phase flow. Thirdly, after analyzing the result data, the paper obtains the velocity characteristics, deepness characteristics and regulation characteristics of the water ramjet's performance parameters, such as specific impulse, the thrust coefficient, and so on.The paper also designs an ideal ramjet with and different formulations of hydroreactive metal fuel under different design conditions, analyzes the synthetic performance of each ramjet, and compares the ramjet's performance to traditional solid rocket motor under the same condition. The analysis results show that the performance advantages of hydroreactive metal fuel ramjet. This method and the result from this paper can provide some theoretical guidance for study on the research and design of hydroreactive metal fuel ramjet.
