The technology of CAD for shipbuilding industry has provided a powerful design mean, it mainly supports aided-design and analysis for the structure and performance. It can hardly change the relations of structure between facilities in the design of ship. The traditional technology of Shipping CAD has difficulty in the genenal layout design which customers pay most attention. Furthermore, it is hardly to realise the real-time interaction in the design process. Therefore, a new path, the Virtual Reality for ship design, is the way which solves these problems.With modernized military demand, the modern ship design is more and more complex, thus, there are more and more data for virtual models, which makes the virtual simulation system difficulty in realizing real-time interaction. Therefore the modeling technologies are discussed and analyzed based on existing shipping CAD and virtual reality technology at home and abroad. According to this thesis—The Virtual Simulation Modelling and the Evaluation Method Research On the General-Layout-Oriented Design of Ship, the accurate three-dimensional models are transformed into 3DS format by Tribon system. The ship model is redisplayed by OpenGL graph sofeware called by Visual C++ programming. The side-folded progressive-grid model simplification algorithm accomplished simplification for the complex grid model. The real-time display is improved for the virtual simulation and evaluation of ship general layout. A effective algorithm-twice fuzzy evaluation algorithm is provided means for the experts to estimate the general layout.This thesis will provide certain referenced value both in the theory and the practice for the ship virtual layout design.
