The punching failure is the existing problem of the concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) joint. This paper mainly studies the punching failure problem of a new type of CFST joint, which is the embedded concrete-filled steel tubular column base joint with external annular steel Plate. The problem is analyzed in two sides, one side is the study of the failure mode of the CFST joint with external annular steel Plate, the other side is the study of the influence on the punching capacity of the joint, which is caused by external Annular steel Plate of various heights. Two models of the joint are made with the plate in different height, which are numbered ZJ/H-7,8. And the research on them have been done by experiment and the finite element analysis of ANSYS. According to the analysis on the failure phenomena, the results of the joints'different parts and ANSYS's finite element analysis, The CFST joints'failure mode, ultimate bearing capacity and the influence factors of the joint's punching capacity can be clearly got.Above all, the study obviously shows, the'failure mode of the ZJ/H-7,8 is the inclined shear-compression failure; External Annular steel Plate of the column base joint is firmly connected with the steel tubular as a whole, it exerts its effect sufficiently, and increases the punching capacity of the joint availably, and changes the joints'punching failure with no external measure into the inclined shear-compression failure; The steel Plate gets no warping deformation, and the concrete around the steel Plate is not locally crushed, so as to ensure the joints'mechanical behavior and path of Force Transfer availably; The steel tubular is firmly connected with the beam concrete, there is no relative slipping between them, the joint is possessed of reasonable design.
