Columnar ultrafiltration membrane with a nominal pore size of 0.01μm was tested for treatment of the Luanhe raw water with pilot-scale. The effect of contaminants removal by columnar membrane system was investigated in the stable operating condition for the different water quality periods, It was proved that columnar membrane system had high efficiency in the removal of turbidity and particles. The guarantee rate of the turbidity of membrane filtrate less than 0.10NTU was 98.9% in a whole hydrological year. The change of raw water turbidity and operation conditions had little effect on filtrate turbidity. The organic matters of filtrate meet drinking water quality standards. The algaes were removed completely, the Fe3+ in membrane-treated water was lower than 0.05 mg/L. Disinfection must be introduced into the membrane process for water treatment.Membrane fiber failure was the main causes of particle counting increase. In the condition of membrane fiber unbroken, the particles in the permeate with a diameter greater than 2μm were well removed. The operation parameters of 3 stages of the Luanhe raw water were optimized. From the aspect of removal effect of organic matter and change trend of TMP, The best parameters incloud the optimal dosage of ferric salt and the best coagulation reaction time and the best membrane flux and TMP and backwashing time. Membrane fouling was mitigated as chlorination processes was applied prior to columnar membrane. Both pre-coagulation and prechlorination could strengthen the membrane system to remove organic matter, and had synergistic effect.Compared with conventional treatment processes, the water treated by membrane processes could reach need for water quality. The effect of turbidity, chromaticity, CODMn and Fe removal by a combination processes of pre-treatment of coagulation and membrane was better than that removal by conventional processes. The operation cost of membrane processes was slightly higher than that of conventional processes for the same project scale.
