The energy source that used nowadays mainly comes from coal and oil which is fossil energy source stored underground for thousands of years. Considering the speed of explore, perhaps for several decades or more than 100 years, the resource will be exhausted. Therefore, saving energy source and the development of reproducible energy source are imperative. Hydropower, being the reproducible energy source, has been used widely, but it is also limited. On the contrary, solar and wind energy source is inexhaustible. At the same time, solar is clean, which causes little pollution to the earth. So how to make plenty use of solar and wind energy source and replace the fossil energy is people's long term research.LED, which is green, is fast applying in construction area. With its price going down and luminous efficacy going up, LED shows its advantage in illumination. Government's calls"Green Lighting", and LED meets the demand. The research of applying LED in illumination, especially in photovoltaic illumination is still on exploration home and broad.Human started using solar long ago. Using LED as illuminant has been realized for many years. But the integrate research of solar and LED is just started, which has brighten future. In the photovoltaic illumination system, solar charger, LED driver and solar connection to grid need improving.In this paper, the photovoltaic illumination and the application of solar and LED in illumination system is analyzed and introduced. Related knowledge of accumulator and the design of solar charger are introduced as the key point. The real circuit of solar charger is designed based on UC3906. The aim is to use solar to supply the lights of the city, which enable the illumination system saving energy and protecting environment and realizing"Green Lighting".
