In the design of satellite, many subsystems of it communicate and couple with each other tightly, so when some design parameters in a subsystem change, other parameters in other subsystem may do also. If simulation and optimization of the satellite only take place in one single system, the final results may be under greater separation; and if all these use manual iterative, the workload may be heavy and complex. Now we introduce the concept of multi-disciplinary optimization (MDO) into the project, which makes full use of collaboration of satellite subsystems, can auto-iterate between multi-disciplinary, and finally gets the better overall solution within the scope of the system.Satellite tools kit (STK), is an advanced analysis software which is widely used in the whole process of the aerospace engineering. With the accurate ability of simulation and analysis, it can generate the position and attitude data of the satellite, the analysis of ex. visibility, sensor, coverage, and so on. However, the software is so singleness, and it is poor when combined with other simulation software. In practical we often encounter the issues like the integration between STK and other applications. But the VC platform can solve it. Integration between the two effectively uses the accurate ability of simulation of the STK and efficient capability of data analysis of VC. It will help improve the flexibility of system development.This paper, which takes the NS-2 satellite simulation and optimization project as the background, will complete some instance using the technique of multi-disciplinary and the development of STK through VC to provide better solution to satellite design. The paper tells the concept of multi-disciplinary collaboration optimization and its specific application in this project. It also describes the core technology of the STK/Connect module and the integration with the VC under a client/server environment. Finally, it takes some typical satellite simulation optimization module as examples to complete the programming of instance.
