With the rapid development of machinery industry and the improvement of productmanufacturing technology, the product design further tends to rely on the cooperativework of multiple disciplines experts. According to the design process of complexproduct, in the multi-disciplinary field, it needs to provide a kind of optimizationmethod and a good optimization algorithm to improve product design and manufactureefficiency, in order to achieve satisfactory results. Therefore, optimization is one of theimportant factors of Multi-disciplinary Collaborative Design (MCD). In this paper, thewhole system frame from the point view of multi-disciplinary collaborative designprocess was introduced, at the same time, it provides a kind of method to optimize thewhole design process and according to the study of existed collaborative optimizationalgorithm, the article puts forward an improved optimization method.This paper firstly analyses the characteristics of multi-disciplinary collaborativedesign platform, building the frame of multi-disciplinary collaborative design processmanagement system based on agent technology, according to the research of WPRtechnology, we propose an optimization method based on WPR improvement. Usingthis method, we can do optimization research for the complex product design processwhich can support the frame and theory for the optimization of multi-disciplinarycollaborative design process. And then, according to the study for the MDO algorithmof product collaborative design, discussing the concepts of methods existed andanalyzing the CO algorithm intensively which is most used now, in view of itsshortcomings, we put forward a kind of improved optimization algorithm based on COalgorithm. Through the comparison of the standard CO algorithm, we prove that thisalgorithm can better overcome some shortage of CO algorithm, it can improve thedesign efficiency of mechanical products and provide algorithm support for themulti-disciplinary collaborative design process optimization.Based on the theoretical researches mentioned above, the implementation of the system design and the functional modules to MCDMS from the optimization design inthe multi-disciplinary collaborative design process were introduced, the practicabilityand efficiency, to some extent, of the research achievement were verified by thevalidation application on the project.
