The durability of reinforced concrete structures is one of the problems widely concerned in engineering. The corrosion of reinforcement is the most dominating factor that influences the durability of reinforced concrete structures, since the corrosion may cause deterioration of mechanical properties for the reinforcement, damage of sectional performance for the concrete and reduction of the bond between steel bars and concrete, so as to change the failure mode of members, decrease their load capacity, and consequently affect the security of structures.Considering the fact that limited study has been made on the characteristics of diagonal section in corroded reinforced concrete beams, this thesis investigates the influences of complete or partial bond failure between steel bars and concrete, due to severe corrosion of longitudinal reinforcement, on the characteristics of diagonal section in reinforced concrete flexural members. The influence which was due to the corrosion of longitudinal steel bars distributed with different extents, ranges and positions on the load capacity of diagonal section was mainly investigated. Combining with the exist experiences result a shear capacity formula for corroded reinforced concrete beams under concentrated loading was proposed and was compared with exist experimental results. Based on the truss and arch theories, the effect due to corrosion of longitudinal and lateral reinforcement on the shear capacity of corroded reinforced concrete beams was investigated.Additional, simulative model of corroded reinforced concrete beams under concentrated load was created and simulation analyses was carried out to research into the characteristics of diagonal section of the beam from another side, using FEA software ANSYS. The bond failure between steel bars and concrete was realized by birth and death elements method in the course of creating the simulative model. The formula proposed in this thesis was applied to calculate the shear capacity of the simulative model, then the result was compared and analyzed with the simulative result to prove the feasibility of the formula.
