Petroleum coke calcination process in the rotary kiln is a complex process that comprises gas flow, movement of solid bed, heat transfer, mass transfer, physical change and chemical reaction phenomenon. There are many parameters that affect the operation of petroleum coke calcining rotary kiln. The optimum design and the economic operation of rotary kiln are affected by gas flow, solid flow, heat transfer process, mass transfer process and chemical reaction process in the rotary kiln. The heat-transfer mathematic model is a just important method that knows temperature distribution in the rotary kiln and thermal characteristics of rotary kiln, so the researches on modeling and simulation of heat transfer for petroleum coke calcining rotary kiln have important significance.Based on the analysis of the bed motion in the axial direction, the heat-transfer process and the mass transport process in rotary kiln, and considered comprehensively the effects of physical change and chemical reaction process in rotary kiln on the heat-transfer process, the heat-transfer mathematic model for petroleum coke calcining rotary kiln is set up. Utilized the methods of numerical calculation, the heat-transfer mathematic model is solved. The results from the numerical calculation predict temperature profiles for the solid bed, the gas phase and the kiln wall, in addition the gas and solid bed composition in the axial direction. And then the rules of countercurrent heat transfer between the gas phase and the solid bed caused by physical changes and chemical reaction processes that take place in the rotary kiln are studied. At the end of this dissertation, some rational proposals are put forward for design and operation of petroleum coke calcining rotary kiln. The direction for further improvement in this research field and the development trend of mathematical model of heat transfer for rotary kiln are prospected.The results of this dissertation can be used to guide the optimum design and the economic operation of petroleum coke calcining rotary kiln. So that, it is better to know thermotechnical parameter profile in the rotary kiln, relationship among the structural parameters, the operational parameters, the heating technology and the production quota. The results of this dissertation greatly improve the level of the optimum design and the economic operation of petroleum coke calcining rotary kiln, decrease the burning loss of carbon, improve the product quality of calcined petroleum coke, cut down the consumption of energy, furthermore, reduce production costs of petroleum coke calcining, and gain obvious economic performance and social benefit.
