Conceptual design is increasingly and extensively considered as a key activity during the product design process. Scheme generation in the conceptual design of mechanical products plays an important role in the overall product design. The quality of schemes is a crucial factor determining the final quality of products and the profit of plants. The conceptual design scheme generation model and solving strategies are deeply researched in this paper, in order to achieve the design schemes and provide effective design information for subsequent design process. The main research works and conclusions include:Firstly, according to the concept of technical system concerning scheme generation based on man-machine interaction, the general framework of the technical system is built. The framework includes two levels: conceptual design modeling and computer realization. The customer requirement modeling, the conceptual design product modeling and the process modeling of scheme generation are presented as the three critical modeling in the general framework. Meanwhile, the relationship between the three modeling technology has been researched.And then, to the main object--function dealt with during the product conceptual design, standard functional basis (SFB) for product functional modeling is expatiated. The functional express methods and the functional decomposition modeling of the computer-aided scheme generation are studied, and then function-means tree is proposed. According to the definition and the content of motion function transforming and transferring unit (FTU), the knowledge base of FTU for solving motion scheme is set up adopting coding technique to give the FTU's code of the behavioral feature, input/output behavior relation and structure relation. The functional analysis methods of the computer-aided scheme generation are studied. The case study shows proposed approach can assist the scheme generation of conceptual design, and lays the foundation of computer-aided scheme generation of conceptual design.Finally, the prototype of the mechanical product scheme generation system is developed. Based on all theory foundation and the key techniques, this paper has modeled classes of system which realized by program, and has achieved the system target.
