Nirvana Of Yaodong

Yaodong is a kind of traditional architectural form, which is widely used in Northern China. Because of its warm in winter and cool in summer as well as it's cheaper than common buildings. However, with the improvement of people's living conditions, the traditional yaodong gradually been forgotten. In the tide of abandoning kiln building, as an architect who pays close attention to the ecology, how to treat the building with such a strong regional cultural and ecologism, the question is worth pondering.The article focus on the reconstruction design of the Yellow River National Geological Park Museum, summed up the museum design strategy and technical measures, which suitable for the climate characteristics of Yellow River downstream region, feasible in economy and technique, and with the ecological significance. At the same time, the traditional ecological strategy and the modernization use of soil, wood and bricks are also excavated. This thesis explores the yaodong architecture, which not only has the individuality, but also has the inevitability, in Yellow River downstream region.At first, the article proves that the yaodong can be rebuilt to museum, through the observation on spot and feasibility studies. Problems are also exists, such as the physical environment of cave, the combination between the extension part and the old yaodong, and the integration with the surrounding environment, and so on.And then, the strategies of old building reuse and ecological are widely used in this thesis, to solve the problem that how to rebuild the yaodong to museum. The article also makes use of the Phoenics software to simulate the natural ventilation, to demonstrate the feasibility of design, and achieve this research design at last.Finally, the article bases on the limitation of the various factors and the options of targeted strategy, combines the own complexity and architectural ontology in the process of research design, to propose that the creation of construction should be based on ecology, and criticize the theory that ecology decision design. It is further proposes that architecture need for rational, but also non-rational.
