By controlling the rudder machine, the electro-hydraulic servo regulator makes the ship back to the correct orientation automatically by changing the rudder angle when the ship departures the navigational direction or changes the ship's course according as the input rudder angle. Based on an electro-hydraulic servo regulator for ship rotary vane type steering gear fetched in from Japan, the performances analysis and parameter optimization of the electro-hydraulic servo regulator for hydraulic rudder machine redesigned is given. The electro-hydraulic servo regulator is made up of hydraulic mechanisms which include servo valve, servo piston, and hydraulic cylinder and electrical and electronic parts which include torque motor, amplifiers and sensors. It is a typical product integrated the mechanism, electrical engineering, electronics, auto control technology, and sensing technology.After investigating the components functions and working principle, the state performances of the electro-hydraulic servo regulator are analyzed by computing its key dimension. A mathematical model of electro-hydraulic servo regulator for ship rudder machine is established based on the flux continuity equations and force-balance equations by linearization and small variable methods. The model provides the theoretical basis for the parameter optimization and manufacture of the regulator. The control dynamic character of the regulator is analyzed and simulated with the Simulink of Matlab by using the solver of ode45 (Dormand-Prince) and variable-step type integral arithmetic, and the laws changing with some structure parameters are obtained. Taking the integrated control-capability as the target functions and using the Matlab optimization toolbox, based on the Algorithm of the Golden Section search and parabolic interpolation, some parameters of the regulator are optimized. The stability and dynamic performance are improved after optimization.The research result indicates that this regulator has symmetrical out-put velocities and out-put forces, and its structural dimensions satisfy the needs of the static and dynamic performance. The simulation after optimization indicates that the response rapidity using the optimized parameters is better than before optimization.
