The structure of Aero-engine is very complicated, and it will be prone to all kinds of mechanical failure when it works in harsh environment. As the"heart"of an aircraft, its running status will directly affect the flight punctuality and safety. Therefore, the condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of aero-engines becomes a very prevalent part of science. Oil analysis is also one of the common engine condition monitoring methods and it is more advanced and more reliable. The XRF method is one of the development trends of the future, and it is also an important part of the oil analysis. The XRF analysis method uses theγ-ray, coming from radioactive isotope to radiate the sample oil. That causes the sample to emit the X-ray fluorescence. Then the intensity of the X-ray fluorescence is mesured. So the content of the element in the sample can be figured out.Firstly, the conventional and recently technology of oil analysis of aero-engine, is studied in this paper, and then the development trend of this technology is forecasted. Secondly, the basic principle of XRF technology is introduced in detail, and then the Aero-engine Oil In-line Monitoring System based on XRF technology is established. And next some lubricating oil is analysed by traditional metallographic microscope and new XRF technology, and its energy spectrum with failure information is got. It was compared with ordinarily oil, and then the threshold is established by the comparison. So the threshold can be used to distinguish between failure status and normal status. Finally, a suit of applied aero-engine intelligent diagnosis system based on elementary analysis is designed in this paper.XRF technology is usually used in detecting solid and powder. It is a new attempt that the XRF technology is put into the oil analysis area in this paper. And it is possible that XRF technology can be used in areo-engine oil on-line monitoring because of the radioactive isotope.The"Aero-engine Oil In-line Monitoring System based on XRF technology"studied in this paper, can be used to predict the failure of the aero-engine ahead, increase the reliability, extend the using life-span, and reduce the life cycle cost of equipments. While those off-line detecting methods can't well reach these advantages. Therefore, this technology has a broad application prospects, and can bring enormous economical and social benefit.
