In both military and civilian fields,we all need predicting targets in a reliable and accurate mode. The moving targets can worse the performance of the predicting systems, because of the complexity, the randomness and the multiplicity of maneuvering,it's a challengeable problem to track maneuvering targets, which has both theoretically and practically technical difficulties. And along with the rapid development of the ship building technology, all ships' speed and maneuverability are higher and higher.Under this circumstance, how to enhance the performance of predicting high speed and highly maneuvering ships has become more and more important. Thus,it is urgent to find new tracking and filtering methods with better performance.Although there are many tracking algorithms, there isn't so much research on tracking high speed and highly maneuvering ships now.So this paper focuses on the problem that how to predict high speed and highly maneuvering targets. At first, this paper introduces the navy radar and the research status of the problem of predicting maneuvering targets' track.Chapter two introduces a few extensively used maneuvering models include constant velocity(CV) model, constant acceleration(CA) model,Singer model,"current"statistical model and the interacting multiple model(IMM) algorithm, and discusses every model's state function and parameters. Two filters are discussed in chapter three:the LMS filter and the Kalman filter.Every filter's principle and steps are detailed introduced. We also do every algorithm's simulation includes the IMM algorithm, CV model,CA model Singer model,"current" statistical model in chapter four, some comparable simulations between these algorithms are done.Based on the results above,We decided to use "Single" model and Kalman filter, the simulation results indicate, this algorithm obtains a better performance in tracking high speed and highly maneuvering targets and a better balance between the performance and computational complexity,as well as very practicability. In chapter 5,we do simulations using MiniGUI which is very portable. We can change the code and make it suitable for other real time operating systems. At last,we summary this paper and prospect the future research directions and development trend.
