Acoustic data acquisition system plays a key role in underwater acoustic experiments. There are advantages of applying this system, such as the lower background interference and longer observation durability. A comprehensive data acquisition system should contains following features: signal pre-conditioning function; signal acquisition and storage capabilities; being able to communicate between compass and GPS; wireless communication capabilities and power management functions. In this paper, the data acquisition system is mainly developed for acquiring signals from the vector hydrophone. Compared with tradition arrays, the single vector hydrophone is smaller in size, lighter in weight and easier to deploy. It is more suitable for various underwater acoustic experiments. The paper consists of hardware design, software development and experimental validation. The PC104 computer is adopted as the core of the collector. It has the advantage in development cycle. It is easy to develop a powerful data acquisition system in a short period of time with the help of PC104. The development cost and difficulties are reduced as well. Furthermore, it is very convenient to make expansions and upgrade. A signal conditioning and data acquisition task is completed with multi-channel analog filtering and data acquisition card, as well as the PC104. The software part is completed by using VC++ software based on the MFC. The paper focuses on demonstrating the core idea of software programming. The multi-threading technology is applied in order to improve the software performance. Thus functions of data transmission and power management are realized with the wireless communication module.Functional tests and experiments are implemented to prove that the system meets indicators. Results show that the system satisfies indicators and targets basically.
